Our introduction to Beekeeping course commenced last Tuesday evening (28th January). Unfortunately registration has now closed on the CAFRE website. Good luck to all of our newbees for 2025. We hope that you love finding out more about this fascinating
It was with deep sadness that we learnt of the peaceful passing of our friend and long time fellow beekeeper Mr Bill Rafferty on the morning of 17th January 2025.Our thoughts and prayers go out to Bill's family circle at this sad time.
Bill kept bees for over 60 years and was a long standing and active member in both the Belfast and District, and East Antrim Beekeepers Associations, as well as serving on the UBKA Executive for many years.
His positive pleasant personality was a blessing to our craft and our members recall him as one of the nicest gentlemen they were fortunate to have known. In our recent 80th anniversary booklet, Bill shared the following memory of his beekeeping:
"Standing at the hives on a sunny day watching the buzz and activity of the bees, what could be better. It's still one of my favourite things to do, always will be."
We are delighted to announce that our very own Brian Grzymek was awarded the UBKA Beekeeper of the Year at the recent UBKA AGM and Honey Show.
Brian received the award primarily for all of his hard work in organising the UBKA Annual Conference. As ever Brian gracefully accepted the award on behalf of the team of volunteers that support him. I think I can safely say that Brian deserves the award for all of the hard work he does at UBKA level, in BDBKA and in his own personal beekeeping world. On top of all of this Brian is currently making and selling beeswax candles to help raise funds for NIPANC.
A huge congratulations Brian from all at BDBKA"
Thank you for your inquiry! We will get back to you as soon as we can. Grania Mackie (Association Secretary)
